Baba’s House:
Lucien Durey and Katie Kozak

Lucien Durey and Katie Kozak’s collaborative project Baba’s House is comprised of works produced during the artists’ year-long, self-directed residency in the home of Sophie Ostrowski, Kozak’s Ukrainian-Canadian grandmother, who lives in the small town of Creighton, Saskatchewan. During their time at Baba’s, they produced a series of scanned compositions of ephemera, photographs, and beloved objects found throughout the house. In this iteration of the project, household artifacts are displayed alongside scanned arrangements. The artists wish to thank the Saskatchewan Arts Board for invaluable assistance with this project. This exhibition is part of Shelved, a project involving artists who examine various archives and filing systems and produce discursive and experimental library spaces through research, curatorial, and publication projects. Over 6 months, artists Krista Belle Stewart, Randy Lee Cutler, Lucien Durey and Katie Kozak will present rotating displays at the Burnaby Art Gallery, Artspeak Artist Run Centre, and the Ridington Room at the Art + Architecture Library at The University of British Columbia.
