New Database – Artists of the World (AOW)

UBC’s Music, Art, and Architecture Library is trialing a new database – Artists of the World (AOW)! AOW is the successor to Allgemeines Künstlerlexikon (AKL), a trusted reference work on art history.

AOW contains over 1 million reviewed entries on artists and artists groups, 500,000 signed bibliographical articles and information on places of activity and artists networks in the form of maps and lists. AOW covers art, art history, architectural history, photography, design, arts and crafts, and new media.

Note: The language of publication is German, the user interface is available in both English and German.

Help us review this resource by exploring the database and providing your feedback here. Trial ends April 14, 2023.

To log in, please select ‘Connect to Resource’, then “Access through your institution” and then search for “University of British Columbia”. Users will then be able to log in with their Campus-wide Login (CWL).

Please reach out to UBC Art Librarian, Caitlin Lindsay, with any additional questions about the database. Thank you for any feedback that you are able to provide!
